Symptoms of neuropathy

A

Numbness, burning, shooting pain

Tingling/paraesthesia of the hands or feet - in a stocking and glove distribution and often at night
- relieved by activity

What is motor neuropathy?

A

Associated neuropathy, such as muscle weakness, wasting, cramps and twitching

May cause deformities

Signs and symptoms of autonomic neuropathy (non-voluntary)

A

Postural hypotension (drop of 30mmHg)

Diabetic gastroparesis - delayed gastric emptying - nausea bloating, and post-prandial vomitting

Faecal incontinence, diarhoea, abdominal paimn

Urinary - hesitancy, frequency, emptying and retention.

Sexual dysfunction

Sweating

Impaired awareness of hypoglycaemia.
