How is diabetic kidney disease assessed?
A
Arrange early morning first-void urine sample for assessment of microalbuminuria by estimation of albumin:creatinine ratio (ACR)
Measure eGFR as well.

How is CKD diagnosed
A
Persistent reduction in kidney function - eGFR less than 60 for 3 months and/or
Persistent proteinuria with urine ACR greater than 3mg/mmol or more

What should all patients with CKD stage 3 be offered
A
Atorvastatin 20mg
ACE inhibitor

Why are statins given to people with CKD?
A
Reduce risk of CV events
