What is Neuropathic Pain?
A
- Pain which arises following damage or disruption of the nervous system
- difficult to treat and responds poorly to analgesia

What are examples of conditions which cause neuropathic pain?
A
- Diabetic Neuropathy
- Post-herpetic neuralgia
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
- Prolapsed Intervertebral disc

What is the managment for Neuropathic Pain?
A
- 1st line: Amitriptyline, Duloxetine, Gabapentin, Pregabalin
- If first line drug treatment does not work try one of the other 3 drugs
- If not working then drugs should be switched not added

What is Tramadol used for?
A
- Rescue therapy for exacerbations of neuropathic pain

What is topical capsaicin used for?
A
- Localised neuropathic pain
-post-herpetic neuralgia

What is used first line in trigeminal neuralgia?
A
- Carbamazepine
