Neuropathic, Arterial and venous wounds Flashcards
what are some arterial causes
-ischemia
-micro/macro vascular disease
-smoking
what are some venous insufficnecy
-DVT
-recent surgery
-prolonged standing, pregnant
-CHF
what are some neuropathic/diabetic
-diabetes
-peripheral vascular disease
-hansens
-charcot marie teeth
talk about neuropathic wounds
-occur on foot or plantar sufrace or toes
-cause by mechanical forces or minor trauma
-sensory, autonomic, motor neuropathy
talk about artieral wounds
-caused by ischemia
-located at perihperal extremities
what are the most common LE wounds
venous
what are the causes of chronic venous insufficency
-reflux as a result of incompetent values
-obstruction
-lack of venous pump during gait
-results in venous hypertension and excessive moisture in tissue
-prevents adequate oxygen and nutrients from reaching skin
what are the pathophysioogical adaptations
-vessel dialation and elongation
-increased collagen deposition in both vein walls and skin
-plasma protein leaks into intersisital space with resulitng fibrin cuff around arterioles
-increased inflammatory cells
what is the progression of venous disease
-heavy, achy legs
-telegenstia or reticular veins
-varicose veins
-edema withotu ulceration
-skin changes w/out ulcertaion
-skin changes w/ ulceration
what are some common skin changes consistent with chronci venous insufficenty
-hyperpigmemntation
-lipodermatoscerlosis
-dilated long saphenous vein
-atrophie blanch
-edema
-dermatitis
-thick skin
-celluliutusi
