Neurons Transmission^ Flashcards
1
Q
How do the neurons communicate?
A
by transmitting electric and chemical signals
1
Q
Types of Neurons
A
- sensory
- relay
- motor
2
Q
Sensory Neuron
A
- Carry messages from PNS to CNS
- Found in receptors
- Carry nerve impulses to the spinal cord and brain
: in brain they are translated into sensations - Not all sensory neurons reach the brain
: some stop at spinal cord for quick reflex
3
Q
Relay Neurons
A
- between sensory input and motor output
- found in the brain and spinal cord
- allow sensory and motor neurons to communicate
4
Q
Motor Neuron
A
- Connect CNS to effectors
: muscles and glands - In CNS and control muscle movement
- steps
: stimulated motor neuron
: release neurotransmitters
: bind to receptors on muscles
: trigger a response
= movement
5
Q
Structure Of NT (Order)
A
Dendrites
- carry nerve impulses (neurons to cell body)
Cell body
- nucleus (DNA/ genetic make up)
Nodes of Randier
- speed up transmission of impulse
- force it to jump across gaps
Axon
- carries impulses away from cell body
Terminal Buttons
- communicate across synapse to next neuron
