neurons Flashcards
What is myelinated mean?
Myelinated is when an axon is wrapped around with schwann cells.
What do dendrites do?
They receive the most information.
What do dendrites do?
Dendrites have receptors which detcet signals from other neurons(in the form of neurotransmitters)
What do this cause?
Electrical change
Where is electrical change in the body processed by?
Processed by the cell body(soma). The cell body interprets all information
Where is information then processed?
Axon hillock
What happens to the signal if the signal from the dendrite long enough?
The signal moves to the axon
What factors have an impact on the speed of transmision of nervous impulses?
Myelination,axon diameter and temperature.
What does gretater amount of temperature mean?
Greater amount of temperature means there is more kinetic energy.More kinetic energy means ions travel across the membrane more rapidly.
What does greater axon diameter mean?
Greater axon diameter means there is more surface area for the movement of ions to travel across the membrane.
