columnar ciliated epithelial tissue Flashcards
what is columanar ciliated epithelial tissue made out of?
Made up of cilia cells which are column shaped.
Where is columnar ciliated epithelial tissue found?
Found on the trachea.
What do goblet cells secrete?
Mucus
What does the mucus do?
Traps pathogens,microbes and dirt
What is the cilia?
Hair like structure.
What does the cilia do?
The cilia wafts mucus in an upwrds direction towards the throat.
Why does the mucus trap pathogens?
This is to protect the lungs by preventing any infections from reaching the alveoli.
Thefore sweep any pathogens/bacteria away from the lungs.
how many layers is the ciliated epithelial tissue made up of?
One layer
A single layer lining the trachea.
What is the shape of ciliated columanr epithelial cells?
Elongated. This means they have a height which is longer than the width of the cell.
What surfaces does the ciliated columnar epithelium line?
Lines the respiratory tract.
Eg.trachea,bronchi,bronchioles
