- containst a nucleus that controls the maintenance and funtions of the cell

- fine branches from the cell body - receive incoming information from other neruons and transmit it to the cell body

- transfers information over distance in the nervous system

- a fatty substance that surrounds the axon
- protects the axon and speeds up transmission of impulses

a types of cells that is sepcialised to receive, transmit and process information

- neurons that carry incoming information from the sensory receptors to the brain and spinal cord

- Neurons that carry signals from the spinal cord to the muscle to produce movement

- Neurons within the brain and spinal cord that communicate internally and intervene between the sensory inputs and motor outputs
