Neuronal And Hornomal Influences Flashcards
Outline- Limbic system
The area of the brain that helps coordinate behaviour and especially emotion and motivation. Main parts are the amygdala and hippocampus.
Outline- Amygdala
The part of the brain that gives us anger. If the amygdala is stimulated then you’ll experience anger, but if it’s removed there will be no more anger.
Outline- Hippocampus
Part of the brain responsible for memory, which helps us respond to stimuli which we remember should be linked to aggression.
Evaluation- Evidence for testosterone being linked to aggression
Dabbs (1987)
- found prison inmates who were convicted for violent crimes had significantly higher testosterone levels than those with non-violent convictions
So- this suggests that testosterone does make people more aggressive
Outline- serotonin
Denson et al
- decreased level of serotonin associated with more impulsive aggression.
Outline- testosterone
Animal studies have found that increased testosterone is linked to increased aggression
Evaluation- limitation of testosterone hypothesis
Carre and Mehta
Found- testosterone only results in aggression when paired with Cortisol being low.
Dual hormone hypothesis.
