Neuromuscular fundamentals Flashcards
Skeletal muscles
600 muscles
215 pairs of skeletal muscles
Superficial fascia
Immediately deep to the skin
Deep fascia
Dense irregular connective tissue holds muscles together and separates them into functional groups
Sarcolemma
Membrane around muscle fibre (cell)
Fiver arrangement- Parallel
Fibres arranged parallel to length of muscles
Flat, sharp, radiant, circular
Fibre arrangement- pennate
Short fibres, UP cross-sectional area, UPpower
Unipennate, bipennate, multipennate
Origin and insertion
Origin is the proximal attachment generally the least moveable part or attachment of the muscle
Insertion the distal attachment generally the most moveable part of the muscle
Intrinsic
Muscles within or belonging solely to the body part upon which they act (small muscles of the hand or foot)
Extrinsic
Muscles that originate outside of the body part which they act upon (forearm muscles that attach proximately on the distal humerus insert on the fingers)
Agonists
Cause joint movement through a specified plane of motion
Antagonists
Located on opposite side of joint from agonist
Work and corporation with Agnes muscles
Ex. Quadricep muscles are antagonist to hamstring in the flexion
