Decontamination with lukewarm bath
Activated charcoal
Control seizures with diazepam etc.
What is the pathogenesis of pyrethrin toxicity in cats?
Alters sodium channel causing tremors or seizures
What are the clinical signs of hepatic encephalopathy?
Weight loss, depression, head pressing, seizures, ataxia, bilateral laryngeal paralysis
How is hepatic encephalopathy diagnosed?
Biopsy showing fibrosis, megacytosis and biliary hyperplasia
What is the pathophysiology of hepatic encephalopathy?
Failure to remove neurotoxins, act as false neurotransmitters, augmented GABA activity
What is the treatment for hepatic encephalopathy?
Supportive
IV 5% glucose
Lactulose to trap ammonia
Branched chain amino acid containing feeds such as sugar beet and cracked corn
