Neurology Anatomy Flashcards
Which nerve supplies the deltoid?
Axillary Nerve (Root C5)
Which nerve supplies the biceps?
Musculocutaneous Nerve (C5 & C6)
What nerve supplies the finger extensors?
Radial Nerve (Root C7)
What nerve supplies the first dorsal interosseous?
Ulnar Nerve
What is the innervation of the flexor pollicis longus muscle?
Medial Nerve
Roots C8, T1
How do you differentiate an ulnar nerve problem versus a C8/T1 root pathology?
Normal strength in the following movements suggests a ulnar nerve problem, rather than a nerve root problem:
Index Finger Extension (Radial Nerve, supplies by C8)
Thumb Flexion & Abduction (Median Nerve, supplied by C8/T1)
Which nerve innervate the gastrocnemius to cause ankle plantar flexion?
Tibial Nerve
Which nerve innervates the tibialis anterior?
Peroneal
What movement is the tibialis anterior responsible for?
Ankle Dorsiflexion
How can you differentiate between a peroneal neuropathy and an L5 neuropathy?
If strength is normal in the following movements, it suggests a peroneal lesion, if weak, suggests an L5 lesion:
(1) Ankle Inversion (Tibial Nerve, L5 root)
(2) Hip Abduction (Sup Gluteal Nerve, L5 root)
If sensation is normal in the lateral ankle, suggests an L5 lesion, because the lateral ankle is supplied S1 through the peroneal nerve. Sensation would be reduced in a peroneal neuropathy.
Where does the spinal cord end?
At the level of S1/S2
What is the total volume of the CSF?
150 cc
What are the laboratory contraindications to lumbar puncture?
INR > 1.7
Platelets < 50
