CAN OPEN
- C = Confusion
- A = Ataxia
- N = Nystagmus
- O = Opthalmoplegia
- PE N = Peripheral Neuropathy
What is the most specific MRI finding for Wernicke’s Encephalopathy?
Enhancement of the mamillary bodies
Due to petechial haemorrhage
Which cranial nerve innervates the lateral rectus muscle?
Sixth cranial nerve
Lateral rectus = responsible for moving eye laterally - palsy of CN6 therefore causes restricted lateral gaze.
May present as horizontal diplopia.
What is the finding on examination in relative afferent pupillary defect?
The affected eye and the normal eye both dilate when light is shone on the affected eye
What are the features of an essential tremor?
- Affects both upper limbs
- Worse if arms outstretched
- Improved by alcohol
