Neuroendocrine Flashcards
What connects the superior and inferior hypophysial arteries?
The trabecular artery
What is the adenohypophesis derived from?
Rathke’s pouch
What are the three subdivisions of the adenohyphesis?
the pars distalis, the pars tuberalis, and the pars intermedia
What are the subdivisions of the neurohypophesis?
Pars nervosa and the median eminence
What do acidophil cells secrete?
Peptide hormones (Growth hormone and prolactin). They are pink
What do basophils secrete?
Glycoprotein hormones (FLAT: FSH, LH, TSH, and ACTH). Think flat base. They are purple.
What are chromophobe cells?
Cells that have depleted their cytoplasmic hormonal content
How is GH release stimulated?
By GHRH from the hypothalamus and by high blood levels of IGF-1
What are the three parts of the adenohypophesis?
Pars distalis (anterior lobe), pars tuberalis (envelops the infundibular stalk), and pars intermedia (wedge separating pars distalis from neurohypophesis)
What are the parts of the neurohypophesis?
Pars nervosa (neural lobe), and the infundibulum
