Neurocranium Flashcards
1
Q
Os frontale
A
- Forms the front wall of the skull and the upper part of the orbit
- Pair of sinuses (frontal sinus)
- Attachment of the temporal muscle
- Desmal ossification
- Designed as paired bones linked with sutura frontalis, grows gradually between 6 and 24 months; in adulthood, exceptionally sutura metopica
- Metopism (13% of the population)
- Designed as paired bones linked with sutura frontalis, grows gradually between 6 and 24 months; in adulthood, exceptionally sutura metopica
- Squama frontalis
- Pars orbitalis
- Pars nasalis
2
Q
Os parietale
A
- It forms the main part of the skull, between the frontal and occipital bone
- The contact with temporal bone is thinner and the ages are overlapping (squamal border)
- Attachment for temporal bone (temporal line)
- Desmal ossification
- Facies externa
- Facies interna
3
Q
Os occipitale
A
- Forms the back of the skull cap and the back base part of the skull
- The foramen magnum enables the crossing spinal marrow
- The only bone of the skull which is connected to the atlas
- Attachments for neck muscle
- Desmal and hondral ossification
- It develops in 5 parts, which overgrow between the 3rd month and 6th year of your life
- Squama occipitalis
- Pars baselaris et lateralis
4
Q
Os temporale
A
- Forms the side part of the skull cap and the side part of them the skull base
- Linked to parietal bone with squamal sutura
- It surrounds the sense organ for hearing and balance
- Attachments for neck muscle
- Desmal in hondral ossification from 3 parts
- Pars Squamosa
- Pars tympanica
- Pars petrosa
5
Q
Os sphenoidale
A
- Forms the front of the base skull, the side parts of the skull cap and walls behind the eye cavity
- Sinus sphenoidalis
- Attachments for masticatory muscles
- Desmal in hondral ossification
- Designed from 6 parts
- Corpus sphenoidalis
- Ala major
- Ala minor
- Processus pterygoideus
6
Q
Os Ethmoidale
A
- Builds the frontal part of the base skull, the upper part of the nasal cavity (2 nasal shells), the upper part of nasal septum and the medial wall of orbit
- Linked with 13 bones
- Contains the sinus in the shape of small holes
- Hondral ossification- designed from 1 part
