What are the 7 regions of the nervous system assessed by neurologic exams?
- Motor Unit
- Spinal Cord
- Pons and Medulla
- Cerebellum
- Midbrain
- Hypothalamus and Thalamus
- Cerebrum
What makes up the motor unit?
Sensory Nerves (Afferent) Ventral Horn Cell Peripheral Nerve (Efferent) Neuromuscular Junction Skeletal Muscle
What is a spinal reflex?
Involuntary response to mechanical stimulation, independent of the CNS.
It is influenced by UMN and unconscious.
Signs of Motor Unit disease/LMN signs
Loss of spinal reflexes
Loss of motor function
Loss of sensation (not always, only if sensory nerves damaged)
RAPID loss of muscle bulk and tone
