Electroencephalogram (EEG)
A
For seizures or if pt mental/LOC state rapidly changes and you don’t know why
Records activity of cerebral hemispheres
Pt must be sleep deprived
Anticonvulsants may be withheld

Cerebral angiography
A
Images cerebral circulation
PRE:
- Prep pt with good hydration, NPO
- Check allergies
- Check circulation on distal extremities before EEG for baseline
POST:
- Keep pt legs straight
- Observe site for hematoma
- Check distal circulation, look for changes
- Full neuro assessment
- Pressure dressing
- Keep hydrated, no caffeine or alcohol 48hrs post
Worry about infection and pain later

A
Faster than MRIs
Cross section view, non invasive
Must be able to lay still.
Can be contrast or no contrast
Is loud so watch out for agitation

Images better than CT

Lumbar puncture
A
Between L4 and L5
KEEP SITE STERILE
Watch for CSF leakage
Leave supine after, watch for headache (common)

A
Clear and colorless Normal pressure Few WBC No RBC-trauma if there is Send to lab ASAP after collecting
