Cerebral palsy (7)

A
  • neurological disorder characterised by motor problems
  • caused by brain damage prenatally or perinatally or postnatally
  • non progressive
  • symptoms may appear to progress but only because problems become more obvious with increased age
  • various risk factors hypoxia asphyxia seizures proemature birth etc
  • development of motor tracts particularly vulnerable between 24-32weeks gestation
  • most common cause in preterm births (earlier than 32weeks) is injury to preventicular white matter

Aspergers syndrome (4)

  • an autism spectrum disorder
  • characterised by sig difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests
  • differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development
  • physical clumsiness and atypical (peculiar or odd) use of language are frequently reported
