acute dystonia
INVOLUNTARY contractions/spasms of tongue, neck, face, back
BAD because it can affect laryngeal muscles (airway)
parkisonism
bradykinesia, rigidity, shuffling gait, drooling, tremors
bradykinesia
slowness of movement and speed (progressive hesitations and halts)
akathisia
client unable to stand still or sit!! constantly pacing
tardive dyskinesia
INVOLUNTARY movements of the tongue and face (and sometimes arms, legs, trunk)
different than acute dystonia because these are MOVEMENTS not just a contraction
lip smacking, eye blinking
neuroleptic malignant syndrome
side effect of antipsychotics
sudden high-grade fever, blood pressure fluctuations, dysrhythmias, muscle rigidity, diaphoresis, tachycardia, change in LOC (developing into coma)
