What Metastatic spinal cord compression?
SC compression because of malignant disease, usually due to extradural tumour compressing onto it.
What are the prognostic factors?
A patient’s mobility during diagnosis is a significant predictor of the ability to walk after treatment.
What is the signs and symptoms?
Pain (local, radicular)
Weakness (bilateral) - difficulty walking
Sensory disturbances (numbness, P+Ns)
Bladder and bowel dysfunction (incontinence, retention)
Loss of proprioception/balance.
Disturbed sleep (Sweats, pain)
What are the NICE guidelines for it?
Give support and rehab based on current condition and holistic needs.
Improve QoL, Participate in ADLs
Specialist rehab for those who will benefit
Supportive care to manage complications.
What is brain tumour?
Abnormal cell growth that invade and destroy healthy tissue.
What to ask for fatigue?
Pattern of activites and duration.
How it affects function
How to manage fatigue?
Plan - Use an activity diary and a grading system, spread out the red activities.
Pace - Check out of 10 their fatigue. Correlate this score with time, and ask when it gets worse. Always relate it to the patient. End activity before fatigue worsens take a break and continue.
