Neuro Lecture 3 Flashcards
what imaging can show you blood from a stroke?
CT and MRI
The most important question to be answered when someone presents with acute stroke is:
Last Known Well
How long does a stroke MRI take?
20-30 minutes about
Why are CT scans preferred sometimes?
time 1/2 the cost located in the ED shorter turn over time compatible aneurysm clips, pacemakers, ferromagnetic material in the body
What type imaging is more claustrophobia?
MRI
what conditions is MRI more useful for?
tumors
seizures
migraine variant
MS
What type imaging shows the age of blood products?
MRI
what type imaging show ischemic area better?
MRI
The area of mismatch between perfusion and diffusion is thought to represent what? (seen on MRI)
penumbra
In most areas what is the scan of choice?
CTs (available right in ER) but in larger centers MRI is more common
A catheter is inserted into the femoral artery and navigated to a point just distal to the area of interest. Contrast is injected, and motion images are taken at 2-3 frames per second.
conventional angiography
Does angiography depict the vessel walls?
No, only the insides
Better than MRA for quantifying the degree of stenosis, showing dissection
CT angiography
form of MRI that uses various scanning and computational parameters (and sometimes gadolinium contrast) to highlight the vascular anatomy.
MR angiography
Does an MRA need to be performed with contrast?
No
