Q

Cervicogenic dizziness is a non-specific sensation of _ _ in _ and _ originating from abnormal afferent activity from the neck to the VNC. Rarely results in _ _, symptoms are generally _ _ than vestibular/ CNS pathology.

A

Is a non-specific sensation of ALTERED ORIENTATION in SPACE and DISEQUILIBRIUM origin acting from abnormal afferent activity from the neck to the VNC.

Rarely results in TRUE VERTIGO, symptoms are generally LESS SEVERE than vestibular/ CNS pathology

How is CGD diagnosed: pt has history of _ _ _ or _, dizziness increases with increased _ _ and/ or _, and elimination of _ _ of dizziness.

A

Pt has history of CERVICAL SPINE INJURY or PATHOLOGY, dizziness increases with increased NECK PAIN and/ or TENSION, and elimination of COMPETING CAUSES of dizziness.

Q

Of the 3 possible tests which one is the most supported by research? Describe. Positive result?

Q

Which of the 3 tests looks at proprioceptive input? Describe pt position, test and positive result. (Know what is in caps)

A

JOINT POSITION ERROR TEST

Pt is seated 3 FEET from target at eye level, laser mounted on head, closes eyes rotates head and then tries to return to original spot with eyes closed. Repeated with head turn to L/R and Up/ Down.

Positive result: GREATER THAN 3 INCHES from center of target

Q

What modality and parameters are indicated for treatment of CGD? What is recommended by David Draper?

A

Ice

David Draper, cryotherapy researcher, crushed ice better than gel, needs to be on for at least 25 minutes to overwhelm body’s temperature regulation system

Q

_ _ _ training is similar to adaptation exercises. Pt is sitting 3-10 feet from a _ _, actively rotates head for - _ with _ in focus. Performed - reps, - _ a day.

A

CERVICAL OCULAR REFLEX training is similar to. . .

Pt sits 3-10 feet from a STATIONARY TARGET, actively rotates head for 15-60 SECONDS with TARGET in focus.

Performed 1-3 reps, 1-3 TIMES a day
