neuro brain disorders Flashcards

1
Q

alzheimers disease

A

Neuropathology: Amyloid plaques and tau tangles with early atrophy in the hippocampus

Major Clinical Feature: Memory deficits early, may progress to additional cognitive deficits in executive functioning, visuospatial impairment, and apraxia. Gross motor and sensory functions are preserved.

Major impairments in executive and visuospatual functions (including attention), minimal memory deficits, symptoms fluctuate prominentaly. Core feature is the presence of parkinsonisms : rigidity in movement, mask-like facial expression, slowness in movement, shuffling gait and stooped posture.
