Neuro A&P- spinal nerves Flashcards
Spinal Nerves
- are sensory, motor and mixed orientation
- each spinal nerve per hemisphere is connected by 2 roots
Fasciculus Gracilis
Ascending sensory
- relates pressure, touch, vibration, kinesthesia to the CNS - only for lower extremities & trunk
Fasciculus Cuneatus
Ascending sensory
- relates pressure, touch, vibration, kinesthesia to the CNS
- only for upper extremities
Spinocerebellar
Ascending Sensory
- relates unconscious proprioception to CNS muscles and tendon
Ventral potion fibers are crossed carrying info contralaterally
Dorsal portion Direct carry info ipsilaterally
Spinothalamic
Ascending Sensory
- relates conscious awareness of pain, touch to the CNS
Ventral portion light pressure
Lateral portion Pain temp
Spinotectal tract
Ascending sensory
-sensory input to reflex
networks of brainstem
Corticospinal (or Pyramidal)
- Lateral Corticospinal - crossed; carries motor commands for muscle control
- Anterior Corticospinal - direct; motor commands for axial and girdle muscles
Rubrospinal
motor commands for muscle tone; supporting the body against gravity
Tectospinal
motor commands for regulation of body posture via visual/auditory signals
Vestibulospinal
motor commands to accommodate balance and reflexive balance
Reticulospinal (Reticular descending)
the motor command for muscle tone and for reflexes (alert activating system in the brainstem)
