Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve
L2-3
What nerve block would be performed to block pain following a csection
Iliohypogastric
Ilioinguinal: motor and sensory
Motor: upper TA and internal obliques
Sensory: upper medial thigh/groin, clitoris and hood, labia majora, mind pubis, base of penis and scrotum.
Ilioinguinal- mechanisms of injury
- hernia or inguinal repair
- postpregnancy
- spermatic cord or round ligament pathology
- pelvic sx-csection
- abdominal sx- appendectomy
- heavy down bearing as with weightlifting
- compression at waist with tight clothing
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve:
L2-3
Runs under inguinal ligament and over sartorius
Lateral femoral cutaneous nerve: MOI
Csection Pregnancy Adhesions Seat belt/tool belt/weight belt Obesity THA anterior approach
Femoral Nerve: motor and sensory
Motor: iliopsoas, pectineus, sartorius, quads
Sensory: anterior thigh, medial knee and ankle
Sensory branch of the femoral nerve
Saphenous nerve
Obturator nerve: motor and sensory
Motor: Obturator externus, adductors, gracilis, pectineus (sometimes)
Sensory: medial thigh and groin
