neural pathway of eye. Flashcards
1
Q
neural pathway of the eye.
A
- ganglion cell axons meet at the optic disk.
- at optic disks are organized.
- optic nerves move out of orbital bone.
- optic nerve at this point is called second cranial nerves.
- from both eye they meet at the optic chiasm, at base of the brain.
- nasal half of retina nerves cross over each other.
- nasal nerves from left move with temporal nerves from right down optic tracts.
- optic tracts move to the midbrain in the lateral geniculate nucleus( LGN ), in LGN information process takes place.
- from LGN radiating nerve fibers radiate, out moving toward posterior portion of occipital lobe.
- in the posterior portion of occipital lobe full interpretation of visual information take place.
2
Q
what is The primary visual receiving area?
A
primary visual cortex, Brodmann area 17.
3
Q
A lesion in one optic tract causes blindness in half of the visual field, and is called ………..
A
homonymous (same side of both visual fields)
4
Q
What is hemianopia?
A
Hemianopia, sometimes called hemianopsia, is partial blindness or a loss of sight in half of your visual field.
Homonymous hemianopsia is a condition in which a person sees only one side ― right or left ― of the visual world of each eye.
