Q

What is the usual function of the Para hippocampal gyrus? and in OCD patients?

A

Process unpleasant emotions such as disgust and guilt. In OCD patients The left para hippocampal gyrus lead to increase processing of unpleasant emotions. This then leads to emotional characteristic such as disgust and guilt.

Q

What is the usual function of the Frontal lobes? and in OCD patients?

A

Decision-making leading to symptoms of OCD. In OCD patient it is impaired and have over acting decision making, leading to repetitive compulsions.

Q

What is the usual role of dopamine and in OCD patients?

A

Reward motivated behaviour for example: food, sex, exercise, social international. In OCD patients excessive dopamine in the synapse may cause OCD, leading to repetitive compulsion.

Q

What is causation?

A

Change in one variable causes a change in another variable. Where correlation means an association between two variables exists.

Q

Why is cause and effect not being established a weakness?

A

It could be that changes in the brain are a result of OCD, as opposed to a cause, similarly, it could be changes in levels of serotonin and dopamine as a result of OCD, as opposed to causing it in the first place.
Therefore causation cannot be implied, as only an association exists, decreasing the usefulness of the theory.
