Neural Explanation Flashcards
What are the 3 biochemicals that are implicated in offending behaviour?
Noradrenaline
Serotonin
Dopamine.
Explain noradrenaline
Part of the fight of flight response
Helps respond to a threatening situation.
High levels are linked to violence and aggression.
So this means, it is easy to explain some crimes.
Chemical imbalance.
Explain serotonin.
Regulates mood, and impulse control.
Low levels= more impulsivity
Have an impaired a agility to hold back
Explain dopamine
Links to addiction- and substance abuse
Pleasure is experienced.
Greater activity of crime- more pleasure is experienced.
This makes addiction more likely.
A03: based on very scientific methodology
Explain
Means many studies have been replicated.
A03: issues relating to the samples used
Explain
Many of the offenders come from poor backgrounds
Makes it difficult to establish weather it is due to neural effects or innate psychological factors.
A03: comparison groups
Explain
They cannot be well matched.
Each offender has different experiences.
