Neural Axis Flashcards
No brain/skull
Anencephaly
Unusual formation between the cerebellum and the fluid-filled spaces around it
Dandy-Walker malformation
A type of rare blood vessel abnormality inside the brain
Vein of Galen aneurysm
a cavity within the cerebral hemisphere, filled with cerebrospinal fluid, that communicates directly with the ventricular system.
Porencephalic cyst
The brain’s cerebral hemispheres are absent and replaced by sacs filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
Hydranencephaly
Failure of neural tube to close
Spina Bifida
A protrusion of the meninges with or without brain tissue through a defect in the skull.
Cephalocele
A disorder caused by the failure of the prosencephalon (the embryonic forebrain) to sufficiently divide into double lobes of the cerebral hemispheres
Holoprosencephaly
An extremely rare disorder of the central nervous system that causes a cyst or cavity filled with cerebrospinal fluid to develop in the brain.
Porencephaly
An extremely rare developmental birth defect characterized by abnormal slits, or clefts, in the cerebral hemispheres of the brain
Schizencephaly
bleeding inside the skull
Intracranial hemorrhage
one or more of the fibrous joints between the bones of your baby’s skull (cranial sutures) close prematurely (fuse), before your baby’s brain is fully formed
Craniostenosis
a rare, gene-linked brain malformation characterized by the absence of convolutions (folds) in the cerebral cortex and an extremely small head (microcephaly)
Lissencephaly
