Neural And Hormonal Explantions For Aggression Flashcards
Evidence that serotonin and dopamine are linked to aggression
Low levels of serotonin and high levels of dopamine
What are neurotransmitters
Chemicals that allow impulses from the brain to be transported from one are to another
Seronin
Serotonin thought to reduce aggression by inhibiting responses to emotional stimuli that might lead to an aggressive response e.g. Arguments
Low levels have be associated with increase susceptibility to impulse behaviour and even behaviour such a violent suicide.
Evidence.
Man et al found that a drug that decreases serotonin levels was to increase hostility in men but not women
Dopamine
Not as developed link as serotonin however link is there. E.g. Increased dopamine activity via the use of amphetamines had also been associated with increased aggressive behaviour.
Antipsychotics that reduce dopamine activity have been shown to reduce aggressive behaviour
