Collection of websites hosted on web servers ACCESSED THROUGH HTTP PROTOCOL

Addresses used to access web server and resources.
What is https: an example of?
A protocol
What is www.cgpbooks.co.uk an example of
A domain name linked to an IP address.

A path to a specific page which may contain a query to a web server
What does a Domain Name Server do (DNS) do?
It translates WEBSITES domain name into IP address
Why don’t you need to remember IP addresses to access websites?
Because the Internet has networks of Domain names so you can use domain names instead.
What is Hosting?
Businesses use servers to store files of another organisation.
What is the traditional use of hosting on the Internet?
The hosting of web servers
What is ‘Cloud Computing’/ ‘the cloud’?
Where businesses use servers to offer a greater range of services- clients access data storage, SOFTWARE and processing power.
How does ‘Cloud Computing’/ ‘the cloud’ act?
Like an extension of TRADITIONAL client server network where USER FILES are stored centrally on a network server.
How do businesses profit of the cloud?
Often offer subscription fee to access cloud services.
but some providers offer limited service for free
How do cloud apps work?
Cloud apps can be run on a remote server WHICH MEANS USER CAN ACCESS LARGE POWERFUL APPS WITH A COMPUTER THAT HAS LESS EXPENSIVE HARDWARE
