What is a network?
A network is when there are two or more computers connected together and have the ability to transmit data between them.
What is a LAN?
LAN stands for Local area network.
It is when network is spread over a small geographical area.
What are some advantages of LAN
It can provide centralised management of updates,backups and software installations.
A lan can use firewalls and antiviruses to secure its devices
LAN allows file sharing and other resources such as printers and other peripherals.
What is a firewall ?
It’s a device designed to make sure there’s no unauthorised access to the network
How does a fire wall function?
It protects the network by comparing the packets going in and out of the network to its network interface card and see if the rules are being applied.
What is the function of a modem when modulating ?
It converts digital information into analogue signals that can be transmitted through wires.
What is the function of a modem when demodulating ?
It converts analogue signals into digital information for the computer to understand the data.
What is the function of a router?
It’s used to direct data packets to the best path to be able to get to the right destination.
What are cables in a network?
They are physical cables that are used as physical paths to transfer data between devices in a network.
