Networks Flashcards
Advantages and disadvantages of a wireless network
Advantages - easy to set up or join network , less cables needed - less costly and lower health risks
Disadvantages - prone to interferences , limited range, less secure
Advantages and disadvantages of a wired network
Advantages - less effected by interference , more security , higher bandwidth so greater reliability, not effected by range and obstacles
Disadvantages - for longer distances cable may be more expensive
star topology description
A central Hub or switches connect multiple nodes(devices) around it and the switch connected to server
Bus topology description
A bus topology uses a single ‘backbone cable to connect all the devices and data is reflected up and down the cable by terminators on either end of the cable
Advantages and disadvantages of a Bus topology
Advantages-Cheaper to set up and maintain , no switch needed and less hardware needed and the network isnt effected if a certain device fails
Disadvantages- data collisions common , so its unsuitable for larger networks , if the main bus cable is broken then the whole network has to be shut down , less security
Advantages and disadvantages of a star topology
Advantages - if a device or cable fails the network is uneffected , simple to add devices without worrying about interference since each device gets own cable , fewer data collisions , faster speeds better security
Disadvantages - expensive because a cable needed for each device and in large network this is a big problem , switch can limit amount of devices connectable
