Network Security Threats Flashcards
What do firewalls do?
Filter all network communication in and out of the network.
What are two types of firewalls?
Software and Hardware
How do firewalls work?
A series of rules are setup and applied to traffic and if any traffic fail the rules it is blocked. Prevents unauthorised traffic in and out of the network.
State-fall packet inspection can scan the contents of each packet as it crosses the firewall, if any patterns in the packet are spotted that match a signature of a known virus they can be rejected.
What is a proxy?
A proxy is simply another physical computer placed between a network and a remote source.
How do proxies work?
All traffic passes through this computer on its way both in and out of the network. A proxy makes sure there is no direct physical connection between a user and a remote source.
What is encryption?
A method of transforming into an unintelligible way. So that it cannot be ready by unauthorised individuals.
