Q

What is a connector?

A

A connection between NetAPP Cloud manager and your services.

7
Q

How do you deploy a connector?

A

Deployed as a VM in all cloud providers and on premises.

For google cloud the connector must reside within the google cloud.
Only a user with admin account privileges can create a connector.

Recommended method is to create a connector from the SaaS Cloud manager.
It can also be created in the cloud side, or downloaded and installed to an in existing Linux host.

Networking requirements are

Outbound internet access
Connection to target networks
Tasks to perform from local interface are (set proxy server, install patch, download AutoSupport messages).

Q

Why would you use more than one connector?

A

A) you are using a multi cloud environment so have one connector in each cloud provider.
B) you need to set up cloud volumes in different regions and so each region needs a connector.

16
Q

What resource options do you have for On-Premises?

A

On-premises ONTAP

17
Q

How can you manage the storage for Cloud Volumes ONTAP?

A

Add disks to aggregates
Create aggregates
Create Volumes (NAS and iSCSI)
Create snapshot copies
And more.

18
Q

How can you manage the storage for Azure NetAPP files?

A

Create NetAPP accounts
Create capacity pools
Create volumes (NFS and SMB)
Create Snapshot copies
And more

19
Q

How can you manage the storage for Amazon FSx for NetAPP ONTAP & Cloud Voulmes Service for Google Cloud?

A

Create Volumes (NFS and SMB)
Create Snapsot copies
And more (iSCSI in the future, only API for now)

20
Q

How can you manage the storage for On-Premises ONTAP?

A

Create Volumes
Create Snapshot copies
And more

21
Q

What features aid data mobility?

A

Replicate
Backup
Sync

22
Q

What is replication in cloud manager

A

It’s is powered by SnapMirror and SnapVault.
Can replicate between one cloud based volume to another (regardless of which cloud provider it exists in).

Also replicate from a cloud volume to an on-premises ONTAP.
Also replicate from an on-premises ONTAP to another on-premises ONTAP cluster.

This can be configured using drag and drop plus a confirmation wizard.

23
Q

What is the different between Simple replication, Fanout and cascade replication?

A

Simple replication is between two volumes (A -> B)
Fanout replication is between one volume and many others (A->B, A->C, A->D, A->E)
Cascade replication is between one volume to another, and then onto other from the second volume (A->B->C)

24
Q

What is backup and Restore in cloud manager?

A

Powered by the cloud backup service.
Cloud manager supports backup from cloud and on premises to a S3 Bucket in AWS and Azure files.

One object store per Cloud Volumes ONTAP or on-premises ONTAP Basesd system.
Object storage in the same region as CLOUD Volumes ONTAP.

For on-premises you identify the region when Cloud. Backup service is enabled.

25
Q

What are your backup and enable options in Cloud Manager

A

Automatically enabled at create of ONTAP cloud systems.]
You can deactivate at deployment and enable it later.
You can also deactivate it is it is already enabled.

All systems are backed up to the cloud.
Only the first backup is full, the rest of incremental.

26
Q

What schedule can you create for backup Policies?

A

Hourly, daily, weekly and monthly.
You can also set a retention period

27
Q

What is Cloud Sync Services

A

A way to move your data between the cloud and also cloud to on-premises
It can be NFS, CIFS, S3 Bucket or any other cloud object store.

It is a Sass (Software as a service)
It has a data broker, source and target.
The data broker controls the sync relationship.
Data broker needs an internet connection on port 443 to communicate with cloud services.
Integrated into cloud manager

28
Q

What else can be managed under cloud manager?

A

Kubernets (with netapp Astra trident software).
Astra trident - open source dynamic storage provisioned and orchestrator for NetAPP storage Portfolio. Restful interface.

29
Q

What is Cloud Data Sense

A

A cloud governance manager for Cloud Manager.
Scans your environment to map and clarify data.

30
Q

Net App Cloud Tiering Service

A

Automatically can move data from on-premises to cloud tiers.
Can reduce costs.
Can go to all cloud providers and on-premises.
Only available through cloud manager.

Features - Automation, Monitoring and Reports.

31
Q

How does Cloud Tiering Work?

A
  1. Discover your on-premiere cluster from Cloud Manager
  2. Setup Tiering with details bout the object storage (class, bucket or access tier).
  3. Cloud manager configured Ontap software
  4. Select the volumes to tiger and the policy for those volumes.
  5. OnTAP software starts Tiering inactive data to the object store.
32
Q

What are cloud Tiering policies?

A

A Tiering policy determines when the blocks of data are moved to the cloud

Cold Snapshot copies - snapshot only - cold snapshot copy data is moved to cloud object storage.
Cold user data and Snapshot copies - Cold user data and snapshot copy data is moved to cloud storage.
All data (all) - all data is marked as cold and moved to cloud object storage.

33
Q

How to activate and deactivate cloud Tiering

A

Ontap API are used to create a connection HTTP to the object storage,
Ontap software writes and reads to the connection

34
Q

What is cloud manager monitoring

A

Cloud insight software
For managing the environment IOPS latency.
Cloud manager can look at cloud volumes.
Automatically monitors all volumes
View volume performance data in terms of IOPS, throughput and latency
Identify performance issues to minimise the effort on your users and apps.

35
Q

Global File Cache and Cloud manager

A

Enables you to consolidate your objects into one footprint.
All locations can use the data as if local.

Features are
Consolidate and centralise your data into the public cloud and use the scalability and performance rom the enterprise solution.

Create a single set of data for users globally and use intelligent file caching to improve global data access, collaboration, and performance.

Rely on a self-sustaining, self-managing cache, and eliminate full data copies and backups.

Experience transparent access from branch locations through a global namespace with real-time central file locking.
