Q

How is data protected?

A

In a peer to peer transfer of data between sites. Object Meta data is automatically distributed to all data sites.Object data is distributed by the ILM policy.

Q

What are the basic building blocks of a StorageGRID system.

A

The Grid nodes. 1 admin node minimum. Storage nodes run object services. Multiple storage nodes can be spread across data centres. Minimum of 3 nodes required but 4 is recommended.

Q

How man choices do you have for deployment, and what are they?

A

StorageGRID Appliance (single unit from Netapp)
StorageGRID Virtual. (Software sits on VMware)
StorageGRID Bare-metal (software sits on Linux, on your own server)

Q

What does StorageGRID storage appliance data encryption protect?

A

It encrypts data at rest and protects data even if the node is removed from the data centre.

Encryption keys are needed at appliance boot time to unlock data.

Data Encryption can be enabled during appliance installation.

Q

What is a service Appliance?

A

Their Gateway, Admin or Both node.

Gateway notes monitor all activity and provide endpoint access.

SG1000 for high performance, SG100 for lower performance

Q

Can you backup to to Storage Grid

A

Yes, musing an ONTAP (9) cluster which is accessed via NFS then passed to StorageGrid using S3 API.

Snapshot copies are put into StorageGrid using Snapmirror.

Q

What is an admin node?

A

Run management services
Enable the admin to enable and configure the storage grid system.
Minimum required 1
There is a primary node (and secondary nodes to allow for failure of the primary node.

Also can run the load balancing services

Q

What is a storage node?

A

Run object services
Meta data services
Policy evaluators
And protocol services.

Multiple storage nodes across multiple sites is possible in the Grid system.

Q

What is a gateway node?

A

Load balance of storage nodes. For ingest and retrieval.

Load balance is installed on admin and gateway nodes.
Provides Layer 7 load balancing - and deals with requests to the storage nodes.

HA groups interfaces can be created on admin nodes and gateway nodes.

Gateway nodes are optional you can use other commercial load balances if you prefer.
