Nervous tissue Flashcards
nervous tissue contains
- neurons
- glial cells (neuroglia)
- blood vessels
describe unique things about neuron structure?
dendrites -no golgi soma -neurofilaments, lipofuschin, lots of ER axon -no protein making organelles - gets there via cytoplasmic streaming.
glial cells of cns?
astrocyte: blood brain barrier
oligodendrocyte: myelinate CNS neurons (1: many axons)
microglia: phagocytose pathogens
ependymal cells: make cerebrospinal fluid, have cilia
glial cells of PNS?
satellite cell - surround ganglia
schwann cells: myelinate PNS neurons (many SC’s:one axon)
does CNS contain connective tissue?
only meninges (surround brain and spinal cord) and blood brain barrier
describe blood brain bar
astrocyte surrounds blood cell
made tight by tight junctions and basal lamina, containing pericytes
control passage of substances into/out of brain
what is gray matter?
contains all the cells
outside of brain, inside of spinal cord
what is white matter?
contains myelinated things; outside spinal cord, inside brain
what are ganglia
surrounded by satellite cells
describe connective tissue surrounding peripheral nerves
o Endoneurium (around a single axon) o Perineurium (around group of axons) o Epineurium (around entire nerve fibre) o Also contain fibroblasts, mast cells and blood cells
