9
Q

discuss the Cochlea

A

It is filled with fluid that starts to move due to pressure waves formed from vibrations passed into oval window from the ossicles.

Q

how do we hear?

A
  • pinna directs sound waves into auditory canal
  • sound waves cause the tympanic membrane to vibrate
  • vibrations will be on to the ossicles (which amplify it)
  • vibrations in the ossicles will cause the oval window to vibrate
  • this will cause the fluid in the inner ear to move
  • this will stimulate the organ of corti which will generate an electrical impulse
  • auditory nerve will take the impulse to the cerebrum
  • cerebrum interprets the sound

Q

discuss deafness

A
  1. wax build up in ear which causes the tympanic membrane to not be able to vibrate.
  2. damage done to ossicles (cannot vibrate)
  3. cells in Cochlea are damaged (loud sounds)

function of the Nose

A

breathing
plays a role in sense of taste
smell

17
Q

how do we smell?

A
  • oudour molecules dissolve in the mucous glands
  • receptors detect stimuli
  • convert it to impulse
  • brain interprets the impulse as a smell
