What are the two types of seizures involved with epilepsy?
Grand Mal / Tonic Clonic
Petit Mal / Absence
What are symptoms of a tonic Clonic seizure?
Tremors
Lost muscle control
Danger of hitting head
What are the symptoms of an absence seizure?
Lose awareness for 30s to 1 min
Lots of blinking before and after
Very small area of the brain quickly firing
What are causes of spinal cord injuries?
Trauma - any accident
Genetic - passed on
Congenital - a problem while gestating in the womb
Diseases
Paraplegia vs quadriplegia
Paraplegia
Loss of the use of legs
Quadriplegia
Loss the use of arms, legs, and torso
What is epilepsy?
Uncontrolled firing of neurons in your brain
All neurons start firing (spreads like wild fire)
What are symptoms of Parkinson’s disease?
Tremors
Overall weakness
Midbrain area - losing ability to make neurotransmitters
Loss of facial muscle control
What is hydrocephalus?
“Water on the brain”
Build up of cerebrospinal fluid around the brain
Brain begins to compress
What is cerebral palsy?
Can be mild or severe Lack of muscle control Can mentally impaired you Slurred speech One thought of cause is lack of oxygen while gestating in the womb
