NERVOUS SYSTEM CNS Flashcards
is the master control and communication system of the body
NERVOUS SYSTEM
rapid and specific and cause almost immediate responses
Electrical Impulses
functions of nervous system
SENSORY INPUT
INTEGRATION
MOTOR OUTPUT
it uses its millions of sensory receptors to monitor changes
STIMULI
the gathered information
SENSORY INPUT
it processes and interprets the sensory input and decides what should be done at each moment
INTEGRATION
causes a response or effect by activating muscles or glands
MOTOR OUTPUT
CNS consists of?
BRAIN AND SPINAL CORD
PNS consists of?
MAINLY NERVES (SPINAL AND CRANIAL NERVES)
occupies the dorsal body cavity and act as the integrating and command centers of the nervous system
they interpret incoming sensory information and issue instructions based on past experience and current conditions
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
includes all parts of the nervous system outside the CNS
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
carry impulses to and from the spinal cord
SPINAL NERVES
carry impulses to and from the brain
CRANIAL NERVES
functional classification of the pns
SENSORY DIVISION (AFFERENT)
MOTOR DIVISION (EFFERENT)
nerve fibers that convey impulses TO THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM from sensory receptors located in various parts of the body
SENSORY DIVISION ( AFFERENT )
