Nervous System Flashcards
Conduct impulses to the spinal cord and brain (afferent)
Sensory neuron
carry impulses away from the brain and spinal cord and toward the muscles and glands (Effrent)
Motor neuron
Carry impulses from sensory neurons to motor neurons
Interneurons
Star-shaped cells that anchor small blood vessels to neurons
Astrocytes
Supports cells, bringing the cells of the nervous tissue together. Structurally and functionally
Gilia
Two way conduction pathway between the spinal cord and higher brain centres; cardiac, respiratory and vasomotor
Medula Oblongata
The two-way conduction pathway between areas of the brain and the other regions of the body; influences respiration
Pons
two-way condiction pathway relies on visual and auditory impulses
midbrain
Part of the brain that involves muscle coordination, maintiance of equalbnirum and posture
Cerebellum
Regulation of body tempature, water balance, sleep cycle control, appetite and sexual arousal
Hypothalamus
Sensory relay station from various body to cerebral cortex, emotions or arousal mechanism
Thalmus
sensory, precipitation, willed motion, consciousness and memory
Cerebrum
Stimulation response by numerous organs (fight or flight)
Sympathetic stimulation
Stimulation response to one organ
Parasyphatic stimulation
