Q

what does the CNS consist of?

A
  • brain is centre of function with cerebral cortex as outer layer
  • extends to spinal chord and is responsible for reflex actions
  • passes info to and from brain. and connects nerves the PNS

Q

What does the peripheral nervous system (PNS) consist of?

Q

(Endocrine)

how is the ANS involved in the fight or flight response in stressful situations?

A

the ANS has a resting parasympathetic branch and the sympathetic branch for high stress situations
(increases things like adrenaline)

Q

(Endocrine)

what is the thyroid gland and how does it affect cells in multiple organs?

A
  • secretes thyroxine into blood that effects any cells with receptor to that hormone
  • affects the heart and metabolic rates through the body

Q

(Endocrine)

what is the process of the fight or flight response in a high stress situation?

A
  • stressor perceived so hypothalamus trigger sympathetic branch of ANS
  • adrenaline released from gland which causes bodily changes needed for fight or flight (like increase HR)
  • once threat has passed the ANS returns to parasympathetic and body returns to resting state
