From which artery do the left and right vertebral arteries arise?
Subclavian arteries
At which vertebral level do the left and right internal carotid arteries arise?
C4
How is the basilar artery fromed?
Union of vertebral arteries
Which arteries complete the posterior of the Circle of Willis by linking the inernal carotid arteries to the posterior cerebral arteries?
Posterior communicating arteries
Which arteries complete the anterior aspect of the Circle of Willis by linking the anterioe cerebral arteries?
Anterior communicating arteries
In what fissures are the: anterior, middle and posterior cerebral arteries found?
Anterior - longitudinal fissure
Middle - lateral fissure
Posterior - transverse fissure

Middle cerebral artery
What cerebral artery supplies the primary sensory area?
Middle cerebral artery
What cerebral artery supplies the primary visual cortex?
Posterior cerebral artery
What cerebral artery supplies the primary auditory area?
Middle cerebral artery
What cerebral artery supplies the area for olfaction?
Anterior cerebral artery
What parts of the brian does the vertebro-basilar system supply?
Brainstem
Cerebelleum
Thalamus
Occipital lobe

Posterior cerebral artery
What is A?

Anteriror cerebral artery
What is B?

Anterior communicating artery
What is C?

Internal carotid artery
What is D?

Middle cerebral artery
What is E?

Posterior communicating artery

What is H?

Basilar artery
What is I?

Anterior inferior cerebellar artery
What is J?

Vertebral artery
What is K?

Posterior inferior cerebellar artery
What cranial nerve emerges just above the superior cerebellar artery?
Occulomotor
What are the different aspects of nerve supply to the arteries in the brain?
Carotid sinus - dilation located in terminal part of CCA, is pressure sensitive receptor which monitors blood to the head, sensory nerves from carotid sinus run in the glossopharyngeal nerve and vagus nerve
Carotid body - area in posterior wall of terminal part of CCA, contains chemoreceptors which are sensitive to low oxygen levels, sensory nerves from these receptors run in the glossopharygeal nerve
Sympathetic motor nerves - from superior cervical ganglion form plexus around ICA, enters skull through carotid canal and continues along main branches of ICA
Where is the carotid sinus?
Terminal part of CCA (or proximal part of ICA)

What does the carotid sinus respond to?
It is a pressure receptor that monitors blood flow to the head and brain
Sensory nerves from the carotid sinus run with what nerves?
Glossopharyngeal
Vagus
The carotid body is located where?
Posterior wall of the terminal part of the common carotid artery in the neck

The carotid body responds to what?
Contains chemoreceptors which are sensitive to low oxygen levels, causing:
increased heart rate, increased respiration rate, increased blood pressure
Sensory nerves from the carotid body run in what nerve?
Glossopharyngeal nerve
The plexus formed from sympathetic motor nerves from the superior cervical ganglion enter the skull through what?
Carotid canal
