Nerves of the Lower Limb Flashcards
What is a nerve plexus?
Intermingling of nerve processes from VENTRAL rami of different spinal cord levels.
What are the two plexuses associated with the lower limb?
Lumbar and sacral plexuses
What are the spinal levels associated with the lumbar plexus?
T12-L4
What nerves come from the lumbar plexus?
Femoral and obturator nerves (L2-4)
What spinal cord levels contribute to the femoral nerve?
L2-4
What spinal cord levels contribute to the obturator nerve?
L2-4
Where does the obturator nerve run?
Medial to psoas major m., through obturator foramen, superficial to adductor brevis
What spinal cord levels contribute to the sacral plexus?
L4-S4
What are the nerves of the sacral plexus?
Superior gluteal n., inferior gluteal n., sciatic n., tibial n., common fibular n.
Spinal cord levels for superior gluteal nerve
L4-S1
Spinal cord levels for inferior gluteal n.
L5-S2
Spinal cord levels for sciatic nerve
L4-S3
Spinal cord levels for tibial nerve
L4-S3
Spinal cord levels for common fibular nerve
L4-S2
What ligaments close the greater sciatic notch?
Sacrospinal and sacrotuberous ligaments
What goes through the greater sciatic foramen?
Superior gluteal n., inferior gluteal n., sciatic n.
Into what nerves does the sciatic nerve divide?
Tibial and common fibular nn.
Into what nerves does the tibial nerve divide?
Medial and lateral plantar nn.
Into what nerves does the common fibular nerve divide?
Deep and superficial fibular nn.
Where is the superficial fibular nerve?
Between the fibularis longus and brevis mm., continues onto dorsum of the foot
Does the deep fibular nerve continue onto the dorsum of the foot?
Yes
