nerves + Ca Flashcards
wasting og hypothenar eminence, weakness of finger abduction + thumb adduction
ulnar nerve
pins and needles, sensory loss to palmar aspect of lateral (radial) 3 fingers
median nerve
loss of extension of fingers
radial nerve
- supplies extensor muscle group
loss of ability to adduct fingers
ulnar nerve
- interossei are supplied by ulnar nerve
sensory deficiet over point of deltoid insertion to humerus
axillary nerve
unable to dorsiflex ankle, evert foot or extend toes, loss of sensation on dorsum of foot
common peroneal nerve
- > suuplies muscles of peroneal + anterior compartment of leg + sensation to dorsum of foot
- travels through popliteal fossa, wrapping round head of fibula
weak hip flexion, weak knee extension, impair quadriceps tendon reflex, sensory deficit in anteromedial aspect of thigh
femoral nerve
ALP, Ca, phosphate in Pagets
raised ALP
normal Ca + phosphate
ALP, Ca, phosphate in osteomalacia
raised ALP
low Ca + phosphate
ALP, Ca, phosphate in hyperparathyroidism
raised ALP
raised Ca
low phosphate
(parathyroidism may be high or normal, normal cos should be supressed in the presence of hypercalcaemia)
ALP, Ca, phosphate in hypoparathyroidism
low PTH
low Ca
high phosphate
ALP, Ca, phosphate in renal failure
raised ALP
low Ca
raised phosphate
tx of hypoparathyroidism
alfacalcidol
also in CKD?
