Nerve supply Flashcards
What teeth (and corresponding structures) are supplied by the posterior superior alveolar nerve?
alveoli, periodontal ligament, pulpal tissues of maxillary molars (1st, 2nd, 3rd) except mesiobuccal root of 1st molars sometimes.
What other tissues are supplied by the posterior superior alveolar nerve?
- Buccal gingiva in molar region & adjacent facial mucosa
- Mucous membrane of max. sinuses
What teeth (and corresponding structures) are supplied by the anterior superior alveolar nerve?
pulpal tissues, periodontal tissues, buccal soft tissues, and bone of maxillary incisors and canines
What is the dental plexus
smaller branch apparatus that actually supplies the teeth
What are the branches (3) that come from the dental plexus and what do they supply?
dental- pulpal tissues through apical foramen
interdental- PDL of adjacent teeth, interdental papilla, buccal gingiva
interradicular-PDL of adjacent roots
What nerve supplies the anterior palatal mucoperiosteum?
The nasopalatine nerve
What nerve supplies the posterior palatal mucoperiosteum?
The greater palatine nerve
What structures are supplied by the long buccal nerve?
- Skin and mucous membrane of cheek
- Mandibular buccal gingiva and mucobuccal fold near premolars and molars
What teeth (and corresponding structures) are supplied by the middle superior alveolar nerve?
pulpal tissue, periodontal tissue, buccal soft tissues, alveolar bone of maxillary premolars and mesiobuccal root of 1st molars
What does the nasopalatine nerve supply?
anterior part of the nasal septum, floor of the nose, palatal mucosa and bone from 13-23
What does the greater palatine nerve supply?
Mucoperiosteum and hard palate anteriorly up to 1st premolar and some parts of soft palate
What teeth (and corresponding structures) are supplied by the inferior alveolar nerve?
Pulp, alveolar bone, PDL of all mandibular teeth
What structures are supplied by the mental nerve and what nerve is it a branch of?
Labial gingivae and adjacent mucosa of the mandibular 1st premolars and anteriors. It is a branch of the inferior alveolar nerve.
What structures are supplied by the lingual nerve?
Lingual gingivae and adjacent mucosa of all mandibular teeth.
