Nerve palsies and Anatomy Flashcards
Ulnar nerve roots
C7, C8, T1
where does the ulnar nerve lie in relation to bones?
behind the medial epicondyle
complications if you break the humeral condyles
deficits when injured ulnar nerve:
motor: claw hand
motor: hypothenar and 1st dorsal interosseous wasting
sensory deficit: little finger
bones in the hand!
carpals (lunate, scaphoid etc)
metacarpals
proximal phalanges
intermediate phalanges
distal phalanges
what can you palpate in the anatomical snuffbox?
radial artery
scaphoid
trapezium
what are the superficial flexors of the forearm?
flexor carpi ulnaris
palmaris longus
flexor carpi radialis
pronator teres
where is the lumbar plexus?
lies on the surface of the quadratus lumborum and within the body of the psoas muscle
most of the nerves of the lumbar plexus exit via what foramen?
sciatic
what nerves do not leave the lumbar plexus via the scaiatic?
genitofemoral and ilioinguinal
femoral
obtruator
the median nerve supplies what hand sensation?
palm of hand (thumb, index, middle and half of fourth finger)
the ulnar nerve supplies what hand sensation?
pinky and half of fourth finger
the radial nerve supplies what hand sensation?
back of hand
thumb, index, middle - but NOT tips of fingers
what are the femoral nerve roots?
L2 -L4
what is the largest branch of the lumbar plexus?
femoral nerve
femoral triangle has VAN
femoral vein (next to āVā of the legs)
femoral nerve
femoral artery
