nerve I Flashcards
name the functions of the nervous system
-sensory (from all senses)
-memory and thinking
-motor (muscle control)
what are the 2 divisions of the nervous system?
-central nervous system (CNS)
-peripheral nervous system (PNS)
what is the CNS composed of?
-brain
-spinal cord
what is the PNS composed of?
nerves known as ganglia, and they are devided into two:
-somatic (skeletal muscles control)
-autonomic (involuntary control)
what are the divisions of the autonomic nervous system?
-symathetic nervous system
-parasympathetic nervous system
in the CNS, what is the brain responsible for?
-sensations
-motor control
-thoughts
-memory
-emotions
what is the function of the spinal cord?
-it acts as the pathway to and from the brain that coordinates subconscious activities, such as stretch reflex and walking.
which nerves that send signals to and from muscles and organs?
nerves of the PNS (ganglia)
the PNS has two types of nerves, what are they?
-Afferent (sensory)
-Efferent (motor)
what is the pathway of afferent nerves?
from muscles and organs to the spinal cord and brain.
what is the pathway of efferent nerves?
from brain and spinal cord to muscles and organs
nerves from the brain stem to head region are called ….
cranial nerves
nerves from the spinal cord to the body are called ….
spinal nerves
name the six major parts of the brain
-Cerebrum (telencephalon)
-Thalamus and Hypothalamus (diencephalon)
-Cerebellum
-Midbrain (mesencephalon)
-Pons
-Medulla oblongata
what are the different lobes of the brain called?
(picture slide 10)
-frontal lobe
-parietal lobe
-temporal lobe
-occiptial lobe
Fissure and Sulcus of the brain (picture slide 10)
1-longitudital fissure (between the two hemispheres)y
2-sylvian fissure (between frontal and temporal lobes)
3-central sulcus (between frontal and parietal lobes)
4-parieto-occipital sulcus (between parietal and occipital lobes)
what make up the cerebrum?
2 cerebral hemispheres
how are the 2 cerebral hemispheres connected?
by the corpus callosum and anterior commissure
