What were some primary impacts of the earthquake?
- Over 180 buildings reduced to rubble in Kathmandu
- Many were killed
- 19,009 people were injured
- $10 billion of damage caused
- Landslides in the mountains buried houses and cut off roads
What were some secondary impacts of the earthquake?
- Thousands were left homeless and had to sleep outside
- Schools, health facilities and government offices had to close
- People in Kathmandu struggled to return to their families in rural areas
- Aftershocks threatened to destroy weakened buildings
What emergency aid did NGOs (non-governmental organisations) provide?
- 10 tonnes of blankets
- 50 tonnes of water and 22 tonnes of food
- Doctors and 2 tonnes of medical supplies
