Neonates Flashcards

1
Q

What are the 6 ways oxygenation be improved in neonatal ventilation?

A
  1. Increase FiO2
  2. Increase Mean Airway pressure by:
    - increasing PEEP
    - increasing PIP
    - increasing Ti
    - decreasing Te

Q

Features of stage 1, 2 and 3 NEC?

A

Stage 1: temp instability, apnoeas and Bradys, mild distension, blood in stools (gross = 1B)
Stage 2: As above plus absent BS, tenderness (1B: cellulitis, mild metabolic acidosis, thrombocytopenia)
Stage 3: as above plus low BP, DIC, neutropenia, peritonitis. Requires surgery
